Want a New Chandelier for Any Room in Your Home? How to Choose a Perfectly-Sized Fixture

Are you thinking about buying and installing a beautiful chandelier in your home? Whether it's the first time you're buying one or not, sizing is everything, so it's important to know how to choose the perfectly-sized modern chandelier for any space in the home, such as the living room, dining room, or even the bedroom. Selecting the wrong size is one mistake you don't want to make simply because of the negative impact it can have on the overall appearance of the room.

If you've selected a chandelier that is too big for the size of the room, it will quickly become an eyesore while adding too much light to a single space. On the other hand, if it's too small, it won't offer enough light and won't be nearly as visible as you'd want it to be. The good news is that when you know how to select a modern chandelier for your home based on the size of the room you're installing it in, it will truly enhance the look and feel of your personal space, adding style and personality to it. Check out these simple steps to finding the perfect light fixture for any space, big or small.

Take Simple Measurements

You may think finding the ideal size for a nordic chandelier, or any other type of modern chandelier, is complicated or time-consuming, but this isn't the case. Determining what size light fixture you need is as simple as completing a few measurements. Before you start, make sure you have a tape measure available. A ruler typically won't be sufficient enough and could lead to inaccurate measurements.

Once you have your tape measure, measure the room length from one end to the other, followed by the room's width from one end to the next in feet. Once you have those two measurements, add them together. The room size will vary from one home to the next, so your results may differ from that of someone else. Once you have that number from adding the length and width together, you will know how many inches wide your chandelier should be. Need an example? If your room is 15 feet x 14 feet, you'd add 15+14, equaling 29. You would want to select a nordic chandelier or any other type of chandelier that is 29 inches wide because it will be the perfect fit.

Consider the Height of Your Chandelier

Although the width of the chandelier is one of the first things to consider before buying one and having it installed in any room, you will also need to consider the height and compare the length of the chandelier with the size of the room. For example, you certainly wouldn't want to put an incredibly long chandelier in a small room with only a few feet between the floor and ceiling. If that were the case, the light fixture would take up too much space, and people who walk through the room could end up bumping their heads into it. You don't want that to happen. Longer chandeliers are best for large rooms with high ceilings and plenty of space.

A good rule of thumb is to count two inches for every foot in ceiling height. For example, if you have a 12-foot ceiling, a 24-inch long chandelier would look great inside the room, still offering plenty of space for people to walk in and out of the room without suddenly feeling the urge to duck to avoid getting hit with chandelier pieces. Use this measurement whenever you're trying to choose a lighting fixture for a room in the home and want to make sure it's a manageable length. Keep in mind that it makes the most sense to go for a shorter chandelier when you have lower ceilings. If not, the fixture you select may take up too much space and get in the way.

Don't Forget About the Placement of Furniture in the Room

Another thing you will want to consider when choosing the right size chandelier for any room is the type of furniture you have in that room and the placement of it. If you're putting a chandelier in the dining room and you have a large dining table in the center of that area, you don't want to get a chandelier that is too long because it might end up touching parts of the table. In that case, it would get in the way, making it difficult for you to use the table when dining with your loved ones. You may even want to measure the distance between where you plan on putting the chandelier and where you have certain items in any room, such as a dining table, couch, bed, or anything else in between.

A modern chandelier is an incredible addition to the home. But before installing one, take measurements and consider the size of the room to ensure that it's the perfect fit. A perfectly-sized chandelier will illuminate your space and keep any area of the home looking amazing!
