Next, unscrew the current unit, reconnect the wires to the new unit, and screw it back in place. How many lighting fixtures can I connect to the switch?

To determine how many lighting fixtures you can connect to a 15-amp, 120-volt switch, you need to consider the total wattage of the fixtures and the capacity of the circuit. The first step is to calculate the total wattage allowed on the circuit: A 15-amp circuit at 120 volts can handle up to 1,800 watts. It is recommended to use only 80% of the circuit's capacity to avoid overloading. Therefore, you should limit the load to 1,440 watts. The next step is to find out the wattage rating of each lighting fixture you plan to connect and devide the total allowable wattage by the wattage of one fixture. For example, if each fixture is 60 watts, then you would divide 1,440 watts by 60 watts, which will give you a total of 24 fixtures. This means, you can connect up to 24 fixtures that are each 60 watts to a 15-amp, 120-volt switch.
